The antique steam engines of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad are stoked up and ready to roll on a season-long celebration of train rides and activities, beginning May 22, 2010.

The first whistle blow of the season will be heard during Opening Day ceremonies in Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, at 10 a.m. as trains prepare to pull out of both depots.

The C&TS RR is co-owned by the states of Colorado and New Mexico through a unique partnership between the two states. This 2010 season commemorates the 40 years of this unique bi-state partnership. Today the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad serves as a living museum, engaging passengers, photographers, historians and train aficionados with one of the most scenic and historic rail experiences found anywhere.

The 40th Anniversary Celebration season is highlighted August 27-29, 2010, with special Celebration Trains departing at 10 a.m. each day. The special train line up also includes a Gubernatorial Train on Friday, hosting state dignitaries. Train enthusiasts will not be disappointed with special runs for the Galloping Goose and Working Freight Trains, displaying the historic role the C&TS once played. The weekend will also feature special shop and depot tours, demonstrations, and movies clips starring the C&TS.

For a full schedule of special trains, visit www.cumbrestoltec.com or call 1-888-CUMBRES (286-2737).
