The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was originally constructed in 1880 as part of the San Juan Extension of the Denver & Rio Grande Western. The line was purchased by the States of Colorado and New Mexico in 1970 to function as a scenic railroad and living museum. We invite you to explore our history, scenery, and machinery here, and to stop by for a visit to see the entire operation as it was meant to be seen -- up close and in person.

You will sense the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains as your train is handled by sure-footed locomotives and able crews through tunnels, above deep gorges and over Cumbres Pass.
